Time Tracker Guides: What Each Tracker Records

Time trackers get blamed for seeing everything or seeing nothing. The truth sits in between, and it changes from tool to tool. These guides explain, in plain English, what each tracker actually records, how its activity and idle numbers are calculated, and what it can't see at all. Find your tracker below, or start with the overview.

What every tracker can see

Whatever the brand, if a monitoring agent is installed and running, it can see how long you were logged in, how much of that involved mouse and keyboard input, which applications and websites you had open and for how long, and when you went idle. The differences are in what each tool adds on top, and in a few things none of them can do.

What a tracker sees versus what it understands

Trackers see input and applications. They do not see work. An hour on a client call looks like near-total idle, an afternoon of careful reading looks like a long quiet stretch, and deep focus on one hard problem can look thinner than aimless clicking. Most disputes about monitoring data come down to that gap between what registered and what happened.

If your real work keeps landing in the invisible column, that's the specific problem LazyWork was built for.

Frequently asked questions

Which guide should I read first?

Start with the one for the tracker your employer or client uses. If you are not sure which it is, read the overview above, then check your own dashboard.

Can I check what my employer sees?

Usually yes. Most trackers give you access to your own data, and some market it as a transparency feature. It is worth looking at least once, because it is normally less alarming than people assume and occasionally more.
