What Is ProHance? What the Software Tracks, ProHance Mate and Screenshots Explained (2026)

Table of contents

If your employer rolled out ProHance, you may have been told little more than "install this." The searches people run afterwards are fair ones: what is it, what does it record, and does it take screenshots? This guide sticks to what ProHance publishes about itself. Where its public material goes quiet, we say so rather than guess.

What is ProHance?

ProHance is workforce analytics software sold by JaMochaTech, a Bengaluru-based company. Its own listings describe it as a "work transformation analytics platform." In plain terms, it is a productivity monitoring tool that measures how employees spend time on their computers and turns that into dashboards for managers.

The product site says it captures login, idle time and active hours using "desktop-based employee monitoring software," and tracks task completion against output benchmarks. It is sold to organisations, not to individual workers, which is why you usually can't choose whether to install it.

Who uses ProHance?

ProHance markets mainly to process-heavy, service-based businesses. Its site lists IT and IT-enabled services, RCM and healthcare, BPO and KPO, global capability centres, and banking and financial services. It cites more than 180 customers and over 400,000 licences across 37 countries. Those are the vendor's own figures.

Its BPO page frames the goal as service-level compliance: balancing workloads, spotting under-used and overloaded staff, and comparing the effort people put in with the output they produce.

What does ProHance record?

From ProHance's own pages, the data it describes includes:

  • Logins and logouts, plus time on and away from the system
  • Active, idle and productive hours
  • Top applications used
  • Schedule adherence and workload
  • Time on tasks, set against output benchmarks

Which of these your employer actually switches on is their decision. ProHance describes itself as configurable, so two companies running the same product can see very different things about their staff.

What is ProHance Mate?

"ProHance Mate" is a product name rather than a single feature, and ProHance's own site does not explain it. The only vendor-published description we could verify is the Chrome Web Store listing for "ProHance Mate - Work Time," which is part of the ProHance Mate family. It says the extension helps "capture specific page content and report activity data" into ProHance Work Time analytics, and the publisher discloses collecting user activity and website content.

That tells you what the browser extension is for. We could not find an official ProHance page that describes a separate desktop component in detail, so we are not going to claim one does or doesn't do something. If you have been asked to install "Mate," ask IT exactly which components are on your machine and what each reports.

Does ProHance take screenshots?

It can, depending on how your employer has set it up. ProHance sells a screen recording module that, according to its product page, captures screenshots or videos either "trigger based" or "on demand." Administrators can set which activities, which user roles and what duration the capture covers, and the page says it supports in-office, remote and hybrid staff.

The page does not say how long recordings are kept, what the module costs, or whether it is part of every plan. The same vendor also says ProHance is built to improve transparency "not monitor screens or keystrokes invasively." Both statements sit on its site. Practically, screen capture is a module an administrator chooses to use, so the honest answer for your job is "ask, and check your own account."

How do activity and idle time work?

ProHance reports idle time and active hours, and managers can see things like time on the system, time away from it, idle hours and productive hours. What the public pages do not publish is the mechanics: how long you must be inactive before time counts as idle, and which inputs count as activity.

Treat any number you see as a count of what a computer could register, not a verdict on your work. Your employer or ProHance administrator can tell you the thresholds in your account.

What ProHance's public material does not say

A tracker can only report on the devices and browsers where its software runs. A document read on your phone, a call on a personal handset or a whiteboard session leaves no trace in a desktop tool.

On typed content, ProHance's public pages do not describe recording what you type, and its marketing says it avoids invasive keystroke monitoring. We found no ProHance documentation that mentions camera or microphone capture either way. Absence from a marketing page is not a guarantee, so if this matters to you, ask your administrator or privacy contact for a written list of what is collected.

What it sees versus what it understands

ProHance sees system activity. It does not see work. A client call, a design review on paper or an hour thinking through a hard problem can all look like idle time on a dashboard, while a busy-looking afternoon of clicking tells a manager very little about output.

ProHance's own approach of setting input against output benchmarks is aimed at that gap, but it only helps if the output side is measured fairly. If your real work keeps landing in the invisible column, that's the problem LazyWork was built for.

How can I see my own ProHance data?

ProHance's listings mention a "personal mode" with data masking, meant to let employees follow their own performance and real-time insights. Whether you have it depends on how your company configured the product. If you don't see it, ask your manager or HR for a report of your own data. In some jurisdictions you may also have a legal right to request what an employer holds about you, which is worth checking locally.

What is reasonable to raise with a manager?

  • Which ProHance modules are switched on for you, including screen recording
  • How idle is defined and what the activity targets are based on
  • Whether meetings, calls and offline work are treated differently from desktop time
  • Who can see your data and how long it is kept

Frequently asked questions

What is ProHance software used for?

Employers use it to measure time, workload, utilisation and output, and to report against targets such as service levels.

What does ProHance mean?

It is the product name of the ProHance workforce analytics platform from JaMochaTech. We did not find an official explanation of the name.
